Toni Jensen is the author of Carry, a memoir-in-essays about gun violence, land and Indigenous people’s lives (Ballantine 2020) and a short story collection, From the Hilltop. She is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Literature fellowship in nonfiction for 2020 and a Sustainable Arts Foundation fellowship in 2019. Her essays and stories have been published in journals such as Orion, Catapult and Ecotone. She’s an Associate Professor in Creative Writing at the University of Arkansas and also teaches in the low residency MFA Program at the Institute of American Indian Arts. She is Métis.

In January, we will welcome the poet Roy Guzman (author of Catrachos).
Roy G. Guzmán, is a Honduran poet and the author of Catrachos (Graywolf, 2020), “part immigration narrative, part elegy, and part queer coming-of-age story.” They received a 2019 fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and a 2017 Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellowship. Raised in Miami, they currently live in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
FICTION: Thursday April 8, 4 p.m.
In April, we’ll have Fowzia Karimi (Above Us the Milky Way) with us.
Fowzia Karimi was born in Kabul, Afghanistan and immigrated with her family to Southern California after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Author of Above Us the Milky Way (Deep Vellum 2020), “a story about war, immigration, and the remarkable human capacity to create beauty out of horror.” She received her MFA in Creative Writing from Mills College in Oakland, California, and has illustrated The Brick House by Micheline Aharonian Marcom (Awst Press) and Vagrants and Uncommon Visitors by A. Kendra Greene (Anomalous Press). She is a recipient of The Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers’ Award. She lives in Texas.
