Mark your calendars now for the return of Arts Incubator of Richardson’s “Ricochet Arts & Music Festival.” This day-long celebration of the arts takes place Oct. 19 at four Richardson venues – Heights Village, Richardson Public Library, Four Bullets Brewery and Six Springs Tavern. Ricochet 2019 will showcase the pinball effect of the arts, encouraging people to go from sidewalk chalk art displays to live theatre, from musical performances to spoken word, plus how-to demonstrations, children’s activities and more. Don’t miss this fun art “happening” for all ages!”
The day begins with a proclamation presented by Mayor Voelker in front of Half Price Books at Heights Village. Ricochet’s Honorary Chair, Marta Gomez Frey, will be there as well. Scheduled artists to follow include The Contemporary Chorale, Richardson Symphony Orchestra trio and sidewalk chalk artists. Sidewalk art will be inspired by the latest “The Addams Family” movie release and will surely delight the Ricochet audiences. Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Richardson will have special showings of “The Addams Family” throughout the weekend. Check the Alamo website for ticket pricing and times: https://drafthouse.com/dfw/theater/richardson
The Richardson Public Library events include kite-painting for kids (all materials supplied), keyboardist Mike Finkel (noon-2pm), a yarn storming, Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea, Chinese Lion Dancers (2-3pm), local singing phenom Riley Amanda (3-4pm).
Four Bullets hosts the Creativity on Tap art exhibit and sale where all the art submitted pertains to beer in some fashion. It’s one of the most fun exhibits of the year! Sing along with an ensemble from the Richardson Community Chorale (1-2pm), then keep the beat with the groovy Tin Man Travis, singer/guitarist. At 4pm the music switches to the Whiskey Britches Band.
After a fun day, don’t skip a beat! Evening options are all at Six Springs Tavern and do require a ticket – $16 in advance/$20 at the door. Headliners for the first Lone Star Concert series, featuring Texas artists in partnership with AIR and Six Springs, are the award-winning Two Tons of Steel (10pm). You won’t want to miss their rollicking rockabilly Texas sound. Spotlighted from 8-10pm are Terri Hendrix w/Lloyd Maines (Americana/Country) – both are Grammy award winners and have quite a following in this area and are guaranteed to get your toes tapping with their original songs and stylings. Kicking off the evening are noted Texas artists Shelley King (blues, soul gospel), Austin’s Barbara Nesbitt (Americana/folk) and local singer/songwriter Justin Tipton.
It’s going to be a very special evening of music celebrating the creative community in Richardson.
Daytime events are free. Evening concerts require a purchased ticket.
All artists and times subject to change. A final schedule of events will be posted closer to the date at www.artsincubatorrichardson.org as well as through Facebook, Instagram and Twitter: #AIR4arts – check back frequently.
Ricochet Arts & Music Festival is underwritten in part by a grant from the City of Richardson Cultural Arts Commission and the Texas Commission on the Arts.
