Dr. Haun Saussy, professor of comparative liturature at the University of Chicago, will touch on the acient Chinese text Zhuangzi, attributed to the 4th century BC philosopher Zhaung Zhou. In the last 104 years, the work has been translated into Western languages several times and has acted as a conduit for the translation of foreign cultural materials into Chinese. Dr. Saussy will describe and attempt to clarify this work’s unusual meditating function and its significance for comparative studies of culture and cross-cultural studies.
