CRISTAL GIVENS

Cristal has always had a passion for music and an entrepreneurial spirit. Immediately out of high school, she began working at Sound Warehouse, interning with PGD and various indi-labels and -distributors, while also going to school. Within four years, she was running her own grass-roots music marketing company, working with artists and labels such as Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe, Pointblank Records, Blue Thumb Records and Osmose Productions. In addition to her 10+ years in music marketing, she expanded her experience with 15+ years in traditional digital marketing including co-ownership in the digital agency, Content Pilot. She now heads the operations of Alchemy Music, a new concept music school and talent development program she launched in 2014 and, as of January 2017, she is the director of the PCG Universal, Dallas office. ALCHEMY MUSIC

With the constantly changing landscape of the music industry in this new digital era, the old-school, cookie-cutter approach to teaching music is no longer sufficient. It is not enough to only teach the basic theory behind the music and the exercises needed to learn an instrument. It is equally as important to nurture the individual’s unique appreciation of and lifetime relationship with music, no matter their skill level, aptitude or instrumental interest.

Alchemy was created to give every student of music, from the curious beginner to the focused hobbyist and even passionate professional, a creative and supportive environment to grow and thrive. The school offers 3 different options for private instruction (student, premium and mentored) to better fit the varied methods of learning and economic circumstances of their clients. In addition to the core private lessons, group workshops and courses, Alchemy also is a place where young bands and artists are supported and mentored through their LIVE performance program. The LIVE program counsels in the art of performance, the business of music, the tools of production and the design of the brand. The artists that come through this program inevitably leave with core life skills that can translate to whatever career path they choose, whether it be music or something completely different.
