AIR Time featuring guest artist Dr. Dennis Kratz in partnership with Richardson Reads One Book

Presented by Richardson Reads One Book at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Richardson

Join us Sept. 11 to kick off Season 9 of AIR Time presented by AIR (Arts Incubator of Richardson).

Dr. Dennis Kratz, Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities at the University of Texas at Dallas will discuss The Circle by Dave Eggers, the featured selection of this year’s Richardson Reads One Book (RROB)

When Mae Holland is hired to work for the Circle, the world’s most powerful internet company, she feels she’s been given the opportunity of a lifetime. The Circle, run out of a sprawling California campus, links users’ personal emails, social media, banking, and purchasing with their universal operating system, resulting in one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency. Mae can’t believe her luck, her great fortune to work for the most influential company in the world–even as life beyond the campus grows distant, even as a strange encounter with a colleague leaves her shaken, even as her role at the Circle becomes increasingly public. What begins as the captivating story of one woman’s ambition and idealism soon becomes a heart-racing novel of suspense, raising questions about memory, history, privacy, democracy, and the limits of human knowledge.

The RROB is hosting an author event at 7:30 p.m., Sept 19 at Richardson High School. The event is free, but you must have a ticket. Tickets will be available at AIR Time, plus Half Price Books will be there to sell the book.

This evening’s movie selection is Blade Runner (1982) Rated R 1 hr 57 min. Directed by Ridley Scott and starring Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer and Sean Young, the film is set in a dystopian future Los Angeles of 2019, in which synthetic humans known as replicants are bio-engineered by the powerful Tyrell Corporation to work on off-world colonies. When a fugitive group of replicants led by Roy Batty (Hauer) escapes back to Earth, burnt-out cop Rick Deckard (Ford) reluctantly agrees to hunt them down.
