The Friends of the Richardson Public Library, Inc. (FOL), a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, is a service organization dedicated to the mission of helping the Richardson Public Library and its staff be a critical educational and cultural resource for the City and its broader service area. The FOL accomplishes its mission both through direct gifts to the Library and through service-focused activities. These gifts and services enable the Library to go “over and above” its budget to be able to deliver superior services to the residents of the City of Richardson, the Richardson Independent School District, and the Library’s multi-county service area.

Via annual book sales, the FOL “recycles” tens of thousands of books, CDs, DVDs, and other material each year, raising thousands of dollars for the Library while keeping valuable printed and electronic media out of the landfill. The FOL participates in or partially funds community activities, such as the Wildflower! Festival, Trash Bash, the annual Christmas Parade, and Santa’s Village. The FOL also supports staff-focused activities such as sponsoring lunches, attendance at book-related events, and an annual college scholarship for a teen volunteer.
