David Kessler’s reputation as a painter is firmly established from his 25-year career. His unique art form holds a viewer’s attention by accentuating the paradox of the flat painted surface with the visual illusion of depth and space. Using a technique in the photo-realist tradition, his spectacular waterscape paintings incorporate realistic imagery painted over a surface of abraded and polished aluminum, creating an incongruous effect when light reflects from the metal surface from beneath layers of paint, much as it would in an actual pool of water.
